The call
I set Reddit’s moderation AI strategy, and I built it with the people it was meant to help. We co-built the strategy with moderators, so it was designed to make their lives easier from the start, not retrofitted to them later.
We also chose a problem we understood well and that AI is uniquely well suited to: telling, in real time, whether a post or comment is at risk of being removed. That became Post and Comment Guidance, which gives people that feedback before they post.
What happened
Moderator removals fell 15%, and successful posts rose by more than 3%. Moderators had less to clean up, and more people’s posts landed.
What I'd tell a founder
Focus on the outcome AI delivers for your users and your company, not on using AI for its own sake.
